Amazon is looking to buy Fox News for $5.7 billion, according to people familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
Fox News has been the subject of numerous antitrust investigations by the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department, and the network has faced significant backlash for its coverage of the deadly attacks in San Bernardino, California.
Amazon has not confirmed the report.
The news comes as the company is preparing to launch its first online TV service in a few weeks, with a big push into sports, news and entertainment programming.
Amazon also has plans to acquire more than a dozen companies including the parent company of The New York Times, which owns the New York Post.
The company has been investing heavily in TV advertising in the past few years.
